1212 Magazine: IFFNY 2019 Jury Announced, Red Carpet & Awards Night

The International Filmmaker Festival of New York has announced the five grand jury members who will participate in the 8th annual edition of IFFNY 2019, bestowing 10 prizes on the titles in competition. The awards ceremony will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2019, where the winners will be announced. The Opening Ceremony hosted by Amina Zhaman and the Red-Carpet event will be held at Dolby Laboratory Theater on Friday, May 17, 2019. The festival takes place May 17-21 in New York City and it kicks off with the premiere of the Israeli film “Acre Dreams” directed by Dani Wachsman.

The awards will recognize standout artistic and storytelling and are voted by each of the five juries. As in the past year, awards are also given out by the festival and the audience.

The grand jury consists of esteemed directors, actors, producers and storytellers, including Jon Russell Cring, Ibër Deari, Maja Wampuszyc, Miranda Jean Larson, and Carlos Freire. Jon Russell Cring will be presiding as Jury President and Ibër Deari as Festival Selector. The Jury will honor new works within the creative community with art awards.

There are six categories that celebrate feature and short films at the festival, namely: Feature Film, Short Film, Feature Documentary, Short Documentary, Animation & Music Video.

IFFNY is organized by the successful filmmaker Mrika Krasniqi, Cannes-winning director. The festival showcases the best world cinema, drawing many film professionals each year. Aimed to promote independent filmmakers from around the world, the festival brings a diverse artistic community. This year IFFNY received over 637 entries from all around the world, with 58 official selections in the program, featuring 51 projects and 7 Special Screenings.
